First Irish Pike Trip for Dutch Angler at Melview

Angling Reports - 15 July 2019

Laurence Ham from the Netherlands was over in Ireland for the very first time for a spot of pike fishing and decided to stay with host and guide Kevin of Melview Fishing Lodge, the first part of the week was a little slow for Laurence but picked up towards the end of the week.

Kevin said, ‘I had the pleasure of fishing with Laurence on two of his days and it was great to see his passion for fishing and the enjoyment he gets from it’.

‘His first pike in Ireland was not a monster but the joy on his face was a picture and one that neither I nor he will forget, and we won’t talk about the five bigger ones we lost’.

Great time had by all and we hope to see him back in Ireland next year.

Angling Reports - 24 July 2019

Fishing guide and owner of Melview Lodge, Kevin Lyons was in touch with a report of great bream fishing for some guests.

Damian Kenny and Killian Mc Cormack from Dublin were up for a few days for a spot of Bream fishing, they are no strangers to Melview Lodge in Longford having stayed here a few times before. On arrival it was away with the bags and off to mix up the prebait. After prebaiting and fishing the first venue a few days they manage some good Bream to 5lbs but not in the numbers expected, I then decided to move them to another venue which we then prebaited.

This change paid off for Damian and Killian and produced a cracking catch of 175lbs of Bream, and the early starts and prebaiting gave the guys just what they deserved. Well done lads, it’s great to see guys like you put in the time and effort and get rewarded for it. Hope to see you again soon guys, thanks again.

Gordon, Kevin and Eric from Liverpool along with friends Will and brother Dennis from Birmingham were back again at Melview Lodge for their annual fishing trip, and on arrival it was straight into prebaiting mode. Feeder fishing proved to be the most productive for the guys using various hook baits. Bream, hybrids and some good roach made up some good catches between them. The guys put in the effort and had a great week’s fishing.
Well done guys and hope to see you again next year.

Neil, Dave, Martin, Alan and Connor from Blackpool had a great week’s fishing recently when they came for their annual fishing trip to Melview Fishing Lodge in Longford. The guys are regulars to the area so after arriving early off the night ferry it was straight to the action.

Feeder fishing at around 35 yards proved to be the best approach and after some prebaiting produced some great catches of Bream, Hybrids and good Roach. The best joint catch of the week was 375lb and the best individual catch of week of 130lb went to Neil. It was a great week of fishing and laughs with the guys and can’t wait to see them back next year.

Thanks again guys.

Anglers Stephen and Dennis from the UK were over in Ireland for their annual fishing trip to Melview Fishing Lodge in Longford. Both are no strangers to the waters around Longford and despite the weather conditions they had some cracking catches of Bream, Hybrids and Roach.

The guys always prebait and prepare for the following day which has seen them to very well on each occasion. Fishing the feeder between 35 and 65 yards into  4 meters of water seemed like the best approach for them, all the early starts and prebaiting paid off. We hope to see them again next year. Thanks again lads.

Husband and wife Cédric and Frauke from Belgium have made a great start to their pike fly fishing week with Melview Fishing Lodge; it’s their first time to Melview and the first time to Ireland for Frauke. Host Kevin Lyons reports that they have been catching great fish, with a number being over the magic 100cm mark.

We’ll post again next week to report on how the rest of the trip went for them. We will also report on Dutch pike anglers Ruben and Patrick, who are also staying at the  lodge, to let you know how they have done.

Kevin Lyons reports from Melview Fishing Lodge in Co. Longford where Dutch pike anglers Patrick and Ruben were on their first Pike fishing trip to Ireland. They decided to stay at Melview Fishing Lodge where I hosted them and was their guide for the trip.
It turned out to be a very good angling trip for Patrick and Rueben. They found both trolling large lures in the deeper water and jerk baiting in two to three meters of water most productive. During their stay they managed to catch some good Pike. I’m sure we will be seeing them back in Ireland soon. Well done guys and hope to see you again soon.

Angling Reports - 25 October 2019

Kevin Lyons reports from Melview Fishing Lodge in Co. Longford where French anglers Pascal, Alain, Dominique and Gerard were over once again for their annual Pike fishing trip to Ireland. They are no strangers to the waters around the area as they have been here a number of times now and know it well. The anglers arrived in high spirits and were looking forward to fishing.

The weather was starting to change that week in comparison to the previous two weeks. There was some rain and wind which increased the already high water levels even further. However this did not bother the anglers one bit as they were looking forward to their fishing trip.

They used both lures and dead bait although the dead baits seemed more productive. They were staying for a week and enjoyed themselves very much as it was also one of the angler’s birthdays, Alain.  They celebrated Alain’s birthday with a great night out and they enjoyed plenty of Irish food and hospitality.

Thank guys for another great week, and I look forward to seeing you next year.
