8 year old Gaius is an all round fisherman with great catches at Melview Lodge

Angling Reports - 30 July 2015

Gaius who is only 8 years old made the trip to Ireland with parents Claus and Britta from Germany for his very first fishing trip to Ireland, fishing various venues alongside their fishing guide Kevin Lyons. The first day produced some nice Pike for him, the second father and son give it a go on their own but the trip was cut short with high winds and bad weather but they still managed a couple that morning.Day three was taking in some sites which included Dublin and it’s Zoo which was a great day for them, but on their return I could see that young Gaius could not wait to get out fishing again. The next day along with a few Pike Gaius caught some very nice Perch, he asked if he could catch some Tench and other course fish. This was made possible by taking him to a local fishery due to the high water levels at the time on a lot of the surrounding lakes, well what a great day this was for him producing some great Tench along with big Hybrids and Roach. So good was the day he returned the following day to catch some nice fish along with a nice bonus Carp, Kevin said the last day we went to a venue where I know there are some big Pike just so we could finish the holiday on a high.  The morning was very slow and the Pike did not come out to play until the afternoon with the largest being around 70cm, but Gaius did not care he just wanted to catch fish which is great to see in someone so young but for him it was just about the taking part. Kevin also said, after seeing his casting and fishing ability at such a young age I’m sure he is going to make a great angler in the future. Let’s hope he returns to Ireland to do some more fishing, thanks guys regards Kevin.
