Kevin Lyons with a fine trout of 8 lb. 4 oz

Angling Reports - 03 April 2014

Mark Whiteside and friend Kerry Hardy from N. Ireland were once again down for a guided Pike fishing trip with guide and guest house owner Kevin Lyons of Melview Lodge Longford, Kevin said both Mark and Kerry have been down a few times and have both caught some great fish. The first day was not a good day for the boat due to high winds so they fished on a spot from the bank using both dead baits and the fly, things were slow to start but after lunch the Pike came on the feed and fell to both Fly and dead baits. The second day out on the boat again after lunch time did produce pike to Fly and dead baits, but their were also a lot of losses on the dead baits and we were all wondering  why. Later in the afternoon Kevin struck into what he thought was a good Pike take but after just a few seconds it was clear this was not a Pike, when we landed on the bank the fish weight in at 8lb 4oz which was a personal best. Kevin said the next day I even tried fly fishing for the Pike and even though I have only been fly fishing for a couple years still managed to bank not a monster Pike but still one that gave me a good fight on light tackle, Kerry was also able to pick up some bigger Pike on the fly that afternoon. Great few days, thanks lads.
